What is Groupic?
Groupic is a photo cleaner for iOS that helps you find duplicate and similar photos and review your library. Library analysis runs on your device. Optional AI Chat sends messages and library summaries to OpenAI; see the Privacy Policy for details. Link to this answer
Is Groupic free to use?
Yes. Groupic is free to download and includes a limited number of free chat and reanalyze tokens. You can get more tokens with a weekly or monthly bundle, or unlock unlimited access with a one-time lifetime purchase. Link to this answer
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Scanning for duplicates, similar photos, blurry shots, screenshots, and large files happens entirely on your device. Your photos, videos, and contacts are never uploaded for analysis. Link to this answer
What data does the AI Chat Assistant send?
AI Chat is optional. If you use it, your messages and a summary of your library, such as item counts and storage totals, are sent to OpenAI to generate a reply. Raw photos, videos, and contacts are never included. See our Privacy Policy for details. Link to this answer
Will Groupic delete my photos automatically?
Never. Nothing is deleted until you review the items and confirm. Photos you delete go to the Recently Deleted album in the Photos app, where they stay for a limited time before being removed permanently. We still recommend keeping a backup of anything important. Link to this answer
What are tokens, and what happens when I run out?
Tokens are used for AI Chat messages, reanalyzing your library, and compressing videos. Free tokens are included. When they run out, you can get a weekly or monthly bundle, or buy lifetime access to unlock unlimited cleaning and analysis. Link to this answer
How do I restore my purchases?
Open the paywall from Settings or the token screen and tap Restore Purchases. Your tokens and lifetime access are linked to your device and Apple ID purchase history, so no account is needed. Link to this answer
Which devices and iOS versions are supported?
Groupic is built for iPhone and iPad and requires iOS 18.6 or later, matching the Compatibility requirements on the App Store. It is available in eight languages and supports both light and dark mode. Link to this answer
What's the difference between "Duplicates" and "Similar Photos"?
Duplicates match a visual fingerprint of each photo (and frame hashes for videos) to find copies and near-identical shots of the same image. Similar Photos groups burst shots, plus photos taken within about 10 seconds of each other with closely matching dimensions — useful for picking the best frame from a rapid sequence. Does Groupic find duplicate videos as well?
Yes. Duplicate videos are detected by extracting and comparing frame hashes, and appear in their own "Duplicate Videos" section with grouped results and total possible savings. Very large videos (over about 1 GB) are skipped to keep scanning responsive. Link to this answer
What counts as a "Large File"?
Any photo or video larger than 50 MB. Results are sorted largest-first so the biggest space hogs are at the top, and the section shows the total size you could reclaim. Link to this answer
How does Groupic decide a photo is "blurry"?
It runs an on-device sharpness check (Laplacian edge variance) on a small thumbnail of each photo and flags images below a fixed sharpness threshold. Only photos are scored — videos and screenshots aren't part of this category. It's a heuristic, so preview the shot before deleting. Link to this answer
What are "Short Videos", and why are they listed separately?
Short Videos are clips shorter than 1 second — often accidental recordings that are effectively invisible in your Photos gallery. Groupic collects them into a dedicated category with count and total size so you can review and delete them deliberately instead of losing track of them. Link to this answer
How does video compression work, and will it reduce quality?
Groupic re-encodes the video on-device at the preset you choose: High Quality keeps 1080p (about 30% smaller), Balanced drops to 720p (about 50% smaller), and Small Size drops to 480p (about 70% smaller). Compression is lossy at every preset, so fine detail can soften — most noticeably at 720p and below. The compressed result is saved as a new video in Photos. Link to this answer
Does compressing a video delete the original?
No — by default the original is kept and the compressed copy is added alongside it. If you want the space back, enable "Delete original videos after saving" in the results sheet; that permanently removes the original. Compression costs 1 token per video (free for lifetime members). Is contact cleanup safe? Does it back up my contacts first?
Duplicate contacts are only merged after you review and select the groups, and Groupic exports a .vcf backup of the affected contacts before making any change (you can save or share it). Merging keeps the primary contact, combines unique phone numbers and emails, then removes the duplicates. It costs 1 token per merged group. Nameless or incomplete contacts are only listed for review — Groupic doesn't delete them for you. Link to this answer
Does Groupic need full access to my photos and contacts?
Photos access is required to scan your library; Contacts access is optional and only requested when you open Contact Cleanup. If you grant Limited Photo Access, results include only the photos you've selected in the iOS picker — Groupic shows a "Limited Photo Access" banner with a Manage shortcut. You can change both permissions any time in iOS Settings → Groupic. Link to this answer
Which languages does Groupic support, and how do I change the language?
Eight languages: English, Japanese, German, Korean, French, Portuguese (Brazil), Indonesian, and Spanish. Change it inside the app under Settings → Language; the choice is remembered and doesn't require restarting or changing your iPhone's system language. The app defaults to English until you pick one. Do I need an account, and does Groupic work offline?
No account or login is required. Scanning, duplicate/similar/blurry detection, compression, and contact cleanup all run on your device, so they work without an internet connection. AI Chat needs connectivity because replies are generated by OpenAI, though simple cleaning commands can be answered on-device; token balances also fall back to local values if Firebase can't be reached. How do I contact support or report a bug?
Email fingercode21@gmail.com (or tap Settings → Contact Us in the app). Include your iPhone/iPad model, iOS version, app version, and a short description; screenshots help. Support typically replies within 2 business days. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. Link to this answer
